Tonia Sikotakopoulou M.Sc.

Academy Manager | Social Impact Team

I am Tonia and I would describe myself as a dedicated and disciplined engineer, with a background in energy engineering. Having completed undergraduate studies in Greece with a focus on hydrocarbon engineering and having gained some initial work experience, I decided to continue my specialization in Germany, completing a postgraduate degree in the development and exploitation of subsurface energy systems. By securing academic funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), I was able to dedicate myself to my studies and subsequent career, expanding my knowledge and gaining valuable work experience in the energy industry. Today I am a research and development (R&D) engineer at the Technical University of Dresden, where I am involved in research and development of thermal process engineering and alternative fuels investigations aiming to contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally respectful energy supply.

At GWiS I spend my time in the Academy department, where our aim is to implement educational programs, workshops and activities. I am involved in the organization because I believe in the importance of making science accessible and interesting to the wider female audience. My aim is to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers by showing them the possibilities offered through engagement with them.

In addition to my involvement in research and supporting women in science, I spend my free time somewhere between reading, short excursions and music.
