Inspiring the Next Generation: A virtual discussion with high school students

On Tuesday, February 4th, we had the pleasure of connecting with the bright young minds of Lala High School in Pyrgos Ilias, Greece, during an engaging online session organized in collaboration with educator Foteini Kloukina. The topic? "Promoting and Recognising the Work of Greek and Cypriot Women in STEM."

Representing our organization were Niki Michalopoulou, Head of Marketing, and Dr. Tatiana Charikleia Styliari, Vice President and Head of Social Impact. They shared personal insights into their academic and professional journeys, the mission and impact of Greek Women in STEM, and the broader role of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The session was attended by 24 curious and enthusiastic 2nd-grade students, who actively participated, asked insightful questions, and sparked dynamic discussions!

Highlights of the conversation included an introduction to Bioinformatics and how someone can get involved in it, and the exciting, often unexpected paths a STEM career can take—like pivoting from social sciences into tech. We also explored the role of Artificial Intelligence, and how everyone can be part of the future either through theoretical sciences (e.g., linguistics) or STEM (e.g., computer science).

The students showed a keen interest in topics like volunteering, mentorship, and how taking initiative today can pave the way for impactful careers tomorrow. The session left us all feeling so energized!

We look forward to our next action with the new generation!
